Street food post: L' As du Fallafel

L'As du Fallafel je jedno od mesta koje obavezno morate posetiti ukoliko dodjete u Pariz. Falafel je na listi 10 neverovatno ukusnih stvari koje ne smete propustiti u Parizu koju je objavio David Lebovitz, poslasticar, bloger, autor nekoliko knjiga o dezertima, koji trenutno zivi u Parizu i pise o slatkom zivotu u ovom divnom gradu.

L'As du Fallafel is one of the places you need to visit if you come to Paris. Falafel is on the list of 10 Insanely delicious thing's you shouldn't miss in Paris that was published by David Lebovitz, pastry chef, blogger, author of few books about desserts, who currently lives in Paris and writes about his sweet life in this beautiful city.



Kada sam prvi put bila u Parizu 2009. godine, sestra iz Australije koja je tada zivela u Parizu napravila je spisak stvari koje moram da posetim i da probam dok sam u Parizu. Na tom spisku nasao se i falafel. Svaki dan mog boravka bio je ispunjen od jutra do mraka, bez stajanja, kratke pauze za rucak i kafa za poneti bile su jedini predah. Jednu takvu pauzu sestra i ja smo iskoristile da odemo u Marais (cetvrt u centru Pariza) i probamo falafel.

Vredelo je svaki minut cekanja u redu - L'As du Fallafel je najpopularnije mesto na kome mozete probati falafel u Parizu. Lepinja (nesto slicno piti giros), crveni i beli kupus, sitno seckani paradajz, grilovani plavi patlidzan, falafel loptice napravljene od leblebija, sve preliveno humusom i belim sosom na bazi tahinija. Bilo je preukusno! Jedini problem je pronaci mesto za sedenje na ulici ili na pragu neke od obliznjih zgrada i na miru uroniti u falafel da ne biste izgubili sadrzaj sendvica hodajuci kroz guzvu u ovom delu Pariza.

First time I was in Paris, back in 2009, my cousin from Australia who was living in Paris at that time made me a list of things that I needed to see/try while I'm in Paris and on the top of the list was falafel. Every day of my stay was planned from dusk till down, quick lunch break and coffee to go were the only time to catch a breath. One of those lunch breaks, my sister and I decided to go to Marais (downtown Paris) and try falafel.

It was well worth waiting - L'As du Fallafel is one of the most popular places for falafel in Paris. Pita, which acts as a pocket, packed with red and white cabbage, chopped tomatoes, grilled aubergine/eggplant,  falafel balls made from chickpeas, topped with hummus and tahini based white sauce. It was delicious! Only possible problem might be finding a place to sit on the street or a doorway nearby,so you can eat your sandwich, without doping anything while walking down the crowded streets in this part of Paris.

Ovog puta, prvo sto sam pomislila kada sam izasla iz metroa na stanici Saint Paul u Marais-u bio je falafel. Obzirom da je novembar i nije bas bio dan za hvatanje u kostac sa falafelom na sred ulice, odlucili smo da udjemo i sednemo. Bilo je prepuno, zgusnuti stolovi, tipicno za Pariz, svako svakom moze da uzme nesto iz tanjira, ali se nekako u svoj toj guzvi osecate kao da ste kod svoje kuce. Kao i za poneti i ovde mozete uzeti falafel umotan u pitu ali smo se mi odlucili za ,,falafel tanjir'' i nismo se pokajali. Sve kao u sendvicu, ali u ogromnim kolicinama. Ja sam se borila ali sam na kraju posustala - nije da se P bunio :) Jeste skuplje nego na ulici (14 evra u odnosu na 5,5), ali vredi svaku paru.

This time around, first thing that came into my mind when I got off the metro at Saint Paul stop in Marais was to have a falafel. Since it's November and it was not quite the weather for tackling falafel on the street we decided to go inside and sit down. Packed of course, tables to close to each other, typically Paris, you can take something from the plate of the person sitting at the table next to you, but in spite all the crowd and craziness you feel like you're at home. Like at the window, inside you can also have falafel sandwich but we decided to have "falafel plate" and haven't regret it for a second. It's the same like a sandwich, but much bigger portion. I fought till the end but didn't eat all of it - it's not like P had anything against it :) It's more expensive than at the window (14 euros versus 5,50) but it's worth every penny.

 Naravno da smo jos jednom ,,sasvim slucajno" bili opet u tom kraju i bas nam je bilo zgodno da svratimo i smazemo jos po jedan falafel, ovog puta za poneti. Posto smo prosi put otkrili i ljuti crveni sos (sluze ga u malim cinijama na svakom stolu) naglasili smo da zelimo i ljuti sos - ljut taman koliko treba. Mozda je falafel bio cak i bolji nego prosli put, ukoliko je to uopste moguce, a mozda i zato sto smo ga jeli hodajuci, pokusavajuci da se ne umazemo skroz, ali da ipak uzivamo u svakom zalogaju.

Nadam se da cete ukoliko posetite Pariz otici do Marais-a (34 Rue des Rosiers) i upustiti se u avanturu falafel. Verujte mi, necete se pokajati!

Of course, we were "accidentally" in that neighborhood again and it was on our way, so we needed to stop by and have one more, this time as a sandwich. Since last time we were there, we discovered the hot red sauce (they serve it in small bowls at every table) we asked for hot sauce too - it's just enough hot. If it's even possible, it was better than the last time or it was just eating it on the street, trying not to get hummus on our jackets, but still enjoy every bite of it.

I hope that if you ever go to Paris, you will go to L'As du Fallafel (34 Rue des Rosiers) and embark on the falafel journey, trust me you won't regret it!

  1. Moram da se pohvalim d ai Beograd ima falafel i to na dva mesta, a ima ga i u restoranima. Tu sam se navukla da sama spremim himus kod kuće i nisam se pokajala. Falafel sam pravila kod kuće, studirala 7 dana razne recepte i šipak. Bio je grozan, pa mi ostaje samo da odem i uživam u gotovom.

    1. I ja sam pravila humus ali nisam pokusavala da pravim falafel mada sam nasla neke dobre recepte za kucnu verziju tako da cu da isprobam i bice u nekom od sledecih postova! :)
